Swimming in the Earth

This beautiful book was written by Kayleen's Grandpa and illustrated by her Aunt.

During 2012 and 2013 my 9-year-old granddaughter fought a 14-month battle with leukemia. I was one of the care givers. And for a time, I was virtually deaf when I came down with an ear and sinus infection for which I took some heavy drugs

During this time I was recording my dreams as well as I could remember them. All all of the poems in the manuscript were written during these two years and most if not all have their genesis in dream images or are dream-like in their images.

Beat AML

Beat AML

Tomorrow will mark the 2 year anniversary of learning that Kayleen's leukemia had relapsed. In the 20 years prior to that day there had been no significant breakthroughs in treatment of AML, the kind of leukemia Kayleen had. Since that day a growing awareness of the need to target this aggressive and deadly type of leukemia has come about. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society has initiated an effort to fund innovative treatments for AML, called Beat AML. Kayleen's parents were excited to learn of this initiative!

Beat AML

on Thu, 11/27/2014 - 17:24

This Thanksgiving we are grateful for all of our sponsors, board members, and for All Of You who have helped to make our fundraising successful.  You help us to continue to support children with pediatric cancer and to continue help fund research towards beating pediatric cancer.

We are excited to announce our first donation from this years fundraising!

The Kayleen Larson Legacy Foundation will be donating $5000 to the LLS -- Beat AML initiative in Kayleen’s honor.

A donation in this amount means we can say all funds must go to research, not admin or overhead.

Winter is here

on Fri, 11/14/2014 - 14:02

Its Nov 14,2014 and there is already about 10 inches of snow on the ground.  Earlier than I am used to, but this is Minnesota where every day can be different.

I was working on other parts of the website, I thought I'd write a quick note about what's going on these days.

We will be having a board meeting soon to discuss this years donations.   We will also start some very preliminary discusions about the Kayleen Larson Legacy 5K on June 6th, 2015.  Yes it is early, but we have stuff to do!!

Thank you eveyone for your support and encouragement,  it is very much appreciated.

Toy Drive --- why and where

on Thu, 08/28/2014 - 01:54
A little bit about Kayleen Larson and the toy drive that she started.

For the past 2 years we have collected toys for Children’s hospital in Minneapolis and its “Star Studio”.

During Kayleens stay at the hospital she received toys and arts/crafts from the hospital.  This helped her get through the longs days of treatment and keep her mind away from cancer.  It was one of the many things they do to help children.

While in remission, for Kayleens 9th birthday, she asked that all toys that she received to be donated to the hospital to help the other kids.

Thank you to our sponsors and to those anonymous donors, you know who you are. We had a great day, the weather behaved (thanks Boo). It was a good turnout of players AND a big "Thank You" to all of the volunteers who helped make it all happen.
